Angel Powell, founder
Growing up on a farm in rural South Carolina influenced the way that Angel looked at food. Having a personal relationship with farmers and the business of farming gave her a great appreciation of what goes into food, and began a lifelong passion for all things culinary.
After graduating from Clemson University with both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English, Angel moved to Los Angeles and then New York City and worked as a writer/producer for Showtime Networks, Universal Studios, The WB, Lifetime, and many other networks. When the pull of the south became too strong to resist, she moved back home and had a successful stint as a food writer for local Charleston publications before combining her love for food, writing, hospitality and communications into a public relations career.
Angel founded South City Public Relations in 2013. She lives with her husband Jimi, their twin daughters Ruby and Harper and their dog, Angus.
Kelen Carlock Settle
A native of Atlanta, GA, Kelen graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in communications. In 2006, she moved to Charleston to attend the College of Charleston. While working for her master’s degree, she held various positions throughout Charleston’s growing restaurant industry before graduating with a masters of arts in communication. While in Charleston, Kelen has gained extensive experience in the public relations, marketing and hospitality industries while working with agencies, brands and non-profits. She joined South City PR in February 2015 as a senior publicist.
Born and raised in Pasadena, California, Taylor grew up with an adventurous culinary palate. Her mother, an accomplished cook, and her proximity to Los Angeles established a great appreciation and passion for good food.
Having never set foot in the south before, Taylor attended the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC and very quickly fell in love. Majoring in Communications, Taylor graduated in spring 2016 and moved back to California to work in entertainment PR and be closer to family, but the south had already stolen her heart. Years of dining at some of the best restaurants in the country had spoiled her and she moved back to Charleston in the spring of 2017 to join the team of South City PR as the Account Coordinator.
